Not only is it not for the House of Reps to declare anything to be the word of God or or declare any Scripture Holy or call for the application of the teachings of any scripture other than the laws and Constitution of the land – but they have their history wrong.<\/div>\n
The framers of the Constitution were trying to get away from the religiously-inspired wars that generations of Christians had fought because of their different understandings of the Bible.<\/div>\n
This should be more fodder for the blog – and we need to get our press releases rolling.<\/div>\n

Declaring 2012 as the “Year of the Bible” in Pennsylvania.<\/span><\/div>\n
2<\/span><\/div>\n
WHEREAS, The Bible, the word of God, has made a unique<\/span><\/div>\n
3<\/span><\/div>\n
contribution in shaping the United States as a distinctive and<\/span><\/div>\n
4<\/span><\/div>\n
blessed nation and people; and<\/span><\/div>\n
5<\/span><\/div>\n
WHEREAS, Deeply held religious convictions springing from the<\/span><\/div>\n
6<\/span><\/div>\n
holy scriptures led to the early settlement of our country; and<\/span><\/div>\n
7<\/span><\/div>\n
WHEREAS, Biblical teachings inspired concepts of civil<\/span><\/div>\n
8<\/span><\/div>\n
government that are contained in our Declaration of Independence<\/span><\/div>\n
9<\/span><\/div>\n
and the Constitution of the United States; and<\/span><\/div>\n
10<\/span><\/div>\n
WHEREAS, Many of our great national leaders, among them<\/span><\/div>\n
11<\/span><\/div>\n
President Washington, President Jackson, President Lincoln,<\/span><\/div>\n
12<\/span><\/div>\n
President Wilson and President Reagan, paid tribute to the<\/span><\/div>\n
13<\/span><\/div>\n
influence of the Bible in our country’s development, as<\/span><\/div>\n
14<\/span><\/div>\n
exemplified by the words of President Jackson that the Bible is<\/span><\/div>\n
15<\/span><\/div>\n
“the rock on which our Republic rests”; and<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

the lives of individuals, families and societies; and<\/span><\/div>\n
4<\/span><\/div>\n
WHEREAS, This nation now faces great challenges that will<\/span><\/div>\n
5<\/span><\/div>\n
test it as it has never been tested before; and<\/span><\/div>\n
6<\/span><\/div>\n
WHEREAS, Renewing our knowledge of and faith in God through<\/span><\/div>\n
7<\/span><\/div>\n
holy scripture can strengthen us as a nation and a people;<\/span><\/div>\n
8<\/span><\/div>\n
therefore be it<\/span><\/div>\n

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare 2012 as<\/span><\/div>\n
10<\/span><\/div>\n
the “Year of the Bible” in Pennsylvania in recognition of both<\/span><\/div>\n
11<\/span><\/div>\n
the formative influence of the Bible on our Commonwealth and<\/span><\/div>\n
12<\/span><\/div>\n
nation and our national need to study and apply the teachings of<\/span><\/div>\n
