SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE INITIATIVE
Religious Communities and the Environment
The enviromental issues facing the world today present a practical and moral
challenge that transcends all religious and cultural divisions. Religious
communities can and should come together and call others to work on these
issues on the basis of our common humanity, if nothing else.
On a practical level, many of the changes that need to take place can be
described as lifestyle changes. Religious communities are uniquely situated in
society to help teach lifestyle changes.
This initiative explores what religious communities can teach in regards to
living in environmentally and socially more sustainable ways.
Programs are interdisciplinary as well as interfaith, including ethical,
technical, social and economic considerations.
Part of this effort is the Interfaith Coalition on the Enviornment, a network of religious communities, civic leaders, engineers and researchers who will explore what individuals and communities can do that might be truly effective to create sustainable modes of living.
