An Evening of Remembrance and Hope:
Interfaith Gathering at area mosque, September 11, 2007
The Interfaith Alliance of Pennsylvania will hold an evening of remembrance and hope at the Islamic Society of Greater Harrisburg (ISGH) on September 11. The intent is for people of faith and goodwill to mourn the acts of 9/11 and to seek ways of moving forward together.
The gathering will begin with an optional tour of the mosque at 7:00 p.m., permitting participants to observe evening prayers.
The ceremony will begin at 7:45 p.m., with brief statements by Rabbi Carl Choper (TIA-PA Chair) and Samia Malik, a member of ISGH. It will consist of a candlelight procession around the mosque, and a time for participants to come forward and ask for peace in the original language of their faith tradition.
Although candles will be available at the ceremony, participants are requested to bring their own, along with a paper cup to catch any wax dripping. All are asked to dress modestly (no shorts), and women are asked to cover hair with scarf or hat. The mosque is located at 407 N. Front St., Steelton, PA 17113
