What is at the heart of the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis? Is it an “Israeli-Palestinian conflict”, or an “Arab-Israeli conflict”, or even part of a “clash of civilizations”
Here in America, various Jewish and Christian communities are trying to address the conflict in the Middle East. As they do, the assumptions they bring affect the relationship between Jews and Christians in the United States. But what are these assumptions?
These are among the questions that we will address together with Sr. Ruth Lautt, O.P., Esq. as part of a series of programs in Jewish-Christian dialogue sponsored in the Harrisburg area by the Religion and Society Center.
Sister Ruth is the National Director of Christians for Fair Witness on the Middle East. She will present her experience with dialogue, in the context of the long-standing disputes in the Middle East over such issues as land and sovereignty. She will take questions from the audience as well.
This event will take place on Monday, June 16, from 7:00 to 9:00pm, at the Cardinal Keeler Center (the Roman Catholic diocesan center) at 4800 Union Deposit Rd. in Harrisburg.
Contact Rabbi Choper, the director of the Religion and Society Center, if you have any questions (717-232-5195 or email rabbichoper@pa.net). Call the Diocesan office for directions to the Keeler Center, 717-657-4804.
This topic is a complex one. Yet it is vital that we understand each other as best we can. Everyone is invited to hear Sister Ruth and join in an open discussion about the assumptions Jews and Christians bring to conversations about the Middle East.
